Holly Karapetkova is Poet Laureate Emerita of Arlington County and the recipient of an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship for her work with young poets. She is the author of three books of poetry, Words We Might One Day Say, winner of the Washington Writers’ Publishing House Poetry Award; Towline, winner of the Vern Rutsala Poetry Award from Cloudbank Books; and Dear Empire, from Gunpowder Press, winner of the Barry Spacks Poetry Prize and the William Meredith Prize for Poetry. She is also the author of over 20 books for children, as well as the translator of several books of Bulgarian poetry and plays. She serves on the board of Washington Writers’ Publishing House, the oldest continually operating nonprofit cooperative press in the United States, and is an editor at Mid-Atlantic Review. She teaches at Marymount University.
